Title of the book - Love is Vodka... One sip ain't enough Author – Amit Shankar Publisher – Vitasta Publishing (2013) Price – Rs 195/-
Don't judge the book by its cover, but judge this book by its back cover (That's what I did). Here's what it says:
Being a love child, Moon is anything but a conventional teen. With a leading news anchor as her mother, an aspiring entrepreneur as her boyfriends, the word LOVE baffles her. The whole idea of having one partner and love being eternal intrigues her. Life turns upside down when she falls for her mother's boyfriend. Destiny further complicates things by blessing her with a mega modelling assignment and turning her famous overnight. A war between her head and heart exposes her to various hues of love Will she decipher the true meaning of love? Embark on an exhilarating rendezvous with Moon and discover love like never before.
A nice cover design, catchy title and an almost nice back cover summary made me read the book. Let's get into it:
The book starts with the author deciphering the word - LOVE. Asking us (the readers) what is true love, does it exists? If it does, will it last a lifetime? Did it for you? What the author also says is - Live for the moment. Don't think about whether it will last or not. Cherish each moment. Enjoy the love you have now. To begin with, I loved the name of the Protagonist in this book - Moon. The character is very Moon lovechild of the famous senior editor of news channel Payal Malik and a French diplomat father. Moon is a crazy and confused teenager working as an intern in one of the best advertisement agency. She is just like any other teenager; bored of her BF Ash, not believing in the concept of sticking to one for your whole life and struggling in her relationship with her mother. She always feels that her mother never really accepted her and got her in this life to SHOW the world that she is an independent woman.
Moon starts taking interest in her office colleague - Akash, who with his charismatic charm and poetic language steals moon’s heart. They start spending a lot of time together in the city, roaming, eating exploring it. Until one day when Moon sees him in a gay party with his boy friend. Moon feels betrayed and being lied to. Aakash never comes back to explain anything to her. A heartbroken Moon gets attracted to her Mother’s boyfriend “D”. D is not just her mom's boyfriend but also the boss of the advertising agency Moon is interning in. He suggests Moon for a modelling assignment and makes her a star overnight, grabs her attention with his charm and smile and Moon falls for him. Through all the happy times and the upheavals, her constant companion is Danzka, her favourite brand of vodka that not only gives her the courage to take recklessly flirtatious decisions, but also helps her gulp down the ensuing sadness after the many failed affairs. And it eventually takes many a powerful gulps of Danzka for Moon to discover true love, in most unlikely of places, in most unlikely of circumstances. Moon has a sweet relationship with her biological father who has always kept in touch with her via phone calls and expensive gifts for her.
Moon has an online buddy Nikhil, who is actually in love with her charming nature. Moon is not stable. She keeps falling in and out of love easily. She is confused. What does true love actually means? Does it even exists? The book ends at good note where she finds her true calling, finds her true love and finally gets closer to her mother.
The things I liked about this book - 1. The way author has portrayed the power of women; their decision making and power to confront the society. The role of Payal Malik is strong and shows the present women who doesn't fear anyone, has self-respect and the power to achieve ambitions. Author being a male has done a good job in portraying female character with all her emotion and complex feelings. 2. Comparison between vodka and love is quite interesting and has been portrayed a lot of times in this book. 3. The chapter titles - Life is too short. Be different, be weird; The best things happen when least expected; You were born an original, don't die a copy AND Don't be where you are tolerated, Be where you are celebrated, etc. 4. Love is Vodka is the very real and relatable way it has been put together. The use of modern Certain lines I liked from book - 1. If love is all about freedom and honest expression then how can one associate it with loyalty? 2. If it is meant to last, it will, and if not.. well.. Cupid shall find you again
If you would ask me, I believe that True love does exists. There is someone for everyone :)
My Rating – 3.5/5
The read is crisp and really short. I finished the book in 6 hours but as always took me a lot of time to review.
How many of you have that friend who could do anything for you? I feel all of you reading this would say yes. Each one of us has that friend who is our world, our secret diary, the one who could blackmail you with all the deepest secrets and yet be the one you never stop confiding in.
A friend is someone who knows all about and loves you anyway!
Friend; its not just a word but a world to many of us. They take our tantrums and still accept us the way we are. Friends, not just a loved-by-all TV Show but a bond which lasts forever. True friends are not easy to find, you don't go and look for one, it comes to you. Like how they say True love comes to you and you don't run behind it. Friend; a watchful protector? No, I am not talking about The Dark Knight even if my line is very much inspired by him. Don't you think friends somehow know what's wrong with you or what's troubling you without you even mentioning it? I have always wondered how my friend calls me the day I am actually feeling low and need her/him the most. Friends are not just someone who you hangout with or send a message on days like today; but they are your second self. They are like that VISA; priceless BUT expiry-less! Not everyday you find someone who looks into your eyes and says - C'mon tell me what's wrong, I know something is. And you melt. You melt like you have been waiting for someone to come and ask you this. All friends are special; be it school, college, office or the ones you never studied with but always sticked on to! The first time I saw this movie; Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (yeah, its my favorite), I dreamt of having a best friend like Kajol and SRK are in the movie. Since then, I made a lot of friends and feel blessed to have some still with me since my childhood. And then I met someone in college. He is like that watchful protector, a silent guardian, someone like SRK is to Kajol, someone with whom I fight a lot but he somehow sees right through me, Yes! bang On! :) Well lets just call him The Batman, he loves when he is called that :P Isn't it Gaurav ;) Friends; they don't believe in distance. All they believe in is the bond yous hare with them. My school time friends; College friends; the Delhi GF - Miss. Shivani :D, The Goa GF - Miss. Ruchika, The Mumbai GF - Miss. Ramani who is soon gonna go away to US and would come back only after 2years :( The other Mumbai GF who is not in the city today - Miss. Shikha! Well, I Love all of them! <3 I want to mention my awesomest and the deadliest childhood group - Linson, Sarath, Srinath, Ashish, Monika, Wrick, Sravanti, Meghna; guys I Love you all :*
Suhail, Kaushik, Ankit, Anshuman, Varun and Dipankar - my Mumbai Buddies :D Guys, you rock! B-) People who stay close and I didn't meet over the past 1 year, I am sorry. I should have. Foram, Unnati, Kenali, Sayali, Deepika and Nidhi. In this fast paced, no time outside phones and TV and Laptops hardly 2-3 of us would actually go and meet our friends. May be we will call or send a text? Send an e-card or may be a video chat? Belated meetings or celebrating Friendship Day? In all this, did you even try meeting them personally? You should. I didn't and I realise I should have. if you still can, get out of your homes and go meet that friend who gives that smile on your face when he/she says - What's wrong with you Ugly face? :D
You getting what I want to say, don't you?
Go on, pick up the phone and call that friend is distant city; put on those chappals and ring the door bell of you nearby friend! All it takes is one step from your side and the rest will be taken by your friend :) Afterall, its all about meeting the ones you love halfway ^_^ #HappyFriendshipDay to all my readers!
Not everyday you get someone who does something for you. Someone, who would spend nights to talk to you; spend his time to pamper you; travels distance to meet you halfway; comes to your rescue when you get stuck; love you like no one else will ever do.
If you have such someone, grab them with both the hands and never let them go. If you do a mistake say sorry, do things which make situations right, apologise even when you are right, value the time you have with them, value their sacrifice, you yourself compromise. Because one day when you get up and don't find them by your side it will be your mistake and not theirs. You didn't value and they deserved better.
This is for that someone I value the most in life. The one I never wana go away.
If you are reading this, I just want to say - You are Special. Everything to me.
"Chahe jo tumhe poore dil se
Milta hai woh mushkil se
Aisa jo koi kahin hai
Bus woh hi sabse haseen hai.
Us haath ko tum thaam lo
Woh meherbaan, Kal ho na ho."
Often comes a time in Life when you want to get lost. Lost in the wilderness of this earth... Lost in the beauty of nature... Lost in someone's arms and sometimes Lost WITH someone. That time you somehow know, He's the one...
You do all the silly things in the world. Dedicating him messages on Facebook, tweeting about how much you love someone; somehow indicating him that you feel he's the one for you... But, does he know?
Then one day you have fight with him. You say sorry and you apologise. But what if you have hurt him real bad? what if a Sorry wouldn't do? But of course you have to make him feel better - because he is your WORLD...
Seen all the superhero flicks but your hero is only HIM? May be then you know he is the one for you... He is your Batman, your Iron Man and even your Superman (it doesn't matter if he doesn't wear his pants inside out ;) ) really!
You apologise again and then you meet. He gives you that perfect Hug inspite of being mad at you and somehow you can't stop your tears and he calls you a whiny baby but still you know why you crying and how much that hug means to you after a fight.
Because You Love Him and he Loves you too... and you know he's the one for you.
and then you keep thinking about the times you have spent with him... Eating that cup full of Mayonnaise and loving Maggi all the more just because you once made for him. Slowly falling in love after friendship and still continuing with stupid fights... Long talks? not necessary :P
There's TRUST, there's UNDERSTANDING when you know He's the one. Jealousy? Of course it stays, but it doesn't mean Trust takes a back seat. You are into him when you He's the one. don't you?
It doesn't matter what life you lived before because now, everything seems perfect with him. Even with all those fights, stupid talks and the kicks - you know where you belong and everything seems all-right with just one look. When you know - no one can replace HIM <3
You think of HIM more... He doesn't have to cross your mind because he doesn't even leaves it. Sometimes you may not show, but you need to show. By not just words but by doing it. Letting him know how special he is...
If he is that friend you found in your love, he's the one... <3
If you can associate with UP (the movie) every time you watch it, then he's the one... making dreams together? :D
Can't say? Good. Do it. Hug is the best way. If you know what I mean and If you know he's the one...
and yes, if he gets you the Cindrealls Shoes or be it any shoes...even if he stands near Vero Moda or Tresmode or Steve Madden or Catwalk with you... he's the one. <3
It rains and you have him, smiling with you? Dance and enjoy as it pours... you may never get that beautiful time back... Don't forget to tell him - He's the one <3
Believe, you are the perfect two <3 and if you still fighting, listen to this song together! :) (How much I love this song!!!)
I know I'm writing after a long time; college timings and loads of other work as well...
But somehow I got time today to share my Love Affair with the city I live in... Mumbai :)
A Love Affair: Mumbai and Me
In my earlier post (http://shrimalimegha246.blogspot.in/2012/05/rain-rain-come-again-d.html) I talked about how badly I want Monsoon to drench Mumbai and now, when it is Raining, I couldn't stop myself from sharing my love for Mumbai <3
I am not a photographer who has an album in her laptop
dedicated to Mumbai but I am a lover who has clicked each moment with Mumbai,
saved in heart.
The Love Affair has been a splendid journey so far and now I better call it a Beautiful
Relationship.
People are right in saying that Love just happens… When I came to Mumbai I was
a little scared before falling in love but Mumbai ‘adopted’ me … and yes, Love
happened.
Mumbai embraces everybody who comes here. I am not jealous about my love
spreading love to all but that is what which makes me love, my love (Mumbai)
even more.
The People, Local Trains, Marine Drive, Bandstand, Vada Pav, Street Shopping, Monsoons;
phew! There is so much to fall in love with. :)
Mumbai Monsoon
Shopping :D
Mumbai Locals (I cannot survive without them)
The Queen's Necklace: Marine Drive
Every relationship teaches you something in life. This 5
year relationship has taught me ‘Never to give up and keep looking for
opportunities”. What if one train goes? The other comes if you learn to wait
for a few minutes.
I remember the time when I used to complain and get
frustrated about the never ending crowd but later I realised that I am one
among them… I stopped complaining!
Mumbai is not just a city to me… but my home; where I reside, where I go back to after work… … The love which is forever!
What do you love about Mumbai or your city?
Share your love in the comment section :)
(I shared these exact words with the TLF magazine for their contest, waiting for the results :D wish me luck! )
(Contest Entry for: http://www.indiblogger.in/topic.php?topic=58) I remember going to a men's barber with my father when i was a child. My mother did not let me grow my hairs (they were not healthy). I used to wear clips and hairbands and would love to have more each passing day as my love for long hairs grew day by day. Not that I was influenced by the fairy-tales and the princesses having really long golden thick locks but the the feeling of your hairs touching your shoulder and moving your fingers through them, well I wanted to live that!
Years went by and I reached secondary. Now my hairs were no more boy-cut but a bob-cut, still far from having a long pony tail or a cute braid. I hated oily hairs then and do now, too (who doesn't?) :D
The hatred was mutual, my hairs would never become strong and thick... Every time I would shampoo, the hairs would become soft and lovely... wish that time pauses!
Time moves on, I came to Mumbai. Hairs became lovely (for a change). Not that I would style them but I started loving my hairs. The one-sided love finally seems fading, sitting here running my fingers through my hairs, wishing for a True Love to happen soon; but NOT one-sided. and that is how I found an end to my hair problems, by falling in love with them...
