Kuala Lumpur - The Irresistible Dream Destination

Remember the innumerable beautiful TVCs of “Malaysia: Truly Asia”? The tone is still fresh in my mind. I still remember running to my TV room to witness the beauty of hundreds of islands and rainforests, the Borneo culture which as old as time, the shopping galore, The Kinabulu National Park (World Heritage Site), the amazing food and the beautiful capital – Kuala Lumpur in those few seconds of advertisement.

There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and? Well, I am not really trying to quote “Alice in Wonderland” here; but as once a novelist said; if you have never been to Malaysia, you haven’t seen the world. So here I am, dreaming of visiting truly Asia and its beautiful capital – Kuala Lumpur.

After doing all the research about this dream destination and making an In-future Itinerary for my trip; there are 5 places/things which make this city so irresistible. Let’s have a look, shall we?

1) The Shopping Paradise

The first thing every girl looks for in a ‘city’ is the place where she can shop unlimited and without burning a hole/(s) in her purse. Shopping in Kuala Lumpur is one of travel's greatest pleasures! Kuala Lumpur alone has 66 shopping malls and it is the retail and fashion hub for Malaysia. Goods are available in every price bracket.

Apart from going to those malls, I will definitely head to - The Petaling Street (Chinatown) in Kuala Lumpur. A place like Mumbai - where the hustling and bustling never comes to an end. Be it day or night, visitors keep coming to this place to get some really good bargains on things sold here. It is a place where the hustling and bustling never comes to an end. You’ll find almost everything from clothes to electronics to souvenirs and even fabrics. Other than cheap and affordable stuff, Petaling Street is renowned for selling imitation goods like handbags, wallets, watches and shoes from brands like Adidas, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, Nike, etc. (That gives me a mixed feeling. However, more on a happy side :P). You will also find some of the best street food of KL on this street, so when the girls go shopping guys can have a good pet-pooja.

2) Petronas Towers

Take a bird’s eye view of this majestic city from Petronas Towers. Whether its day or night; these towers are a major attraction and can never be singled out from anybody’s trip plan. The 88-storey huge twin towers are illuminated beautifully at night and offer a fantastic overview of KL and an uninterrupted, no breaks – 360 degree view of the Malaysian Capital. The architectural beauty of this significant building is sure to add meaning to your KL tour.

With uncountable places and things to do in Kuala Lumpur, you need more than a few days to take in all the sights and sounds in this remarkable city.

3) Batu Caves

When I asked my colleague who has been to KL once, the place she remembered the most was – Batu Caves. A Hindu religious place, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most frequented tourist attractions; Batu Caves is a limestone hill comprising three main caves and a few smaller ones. Said to be more than 400 million years old, the visitors can scale 272 steps to access the caves and visit the temple. Many Hindu devotees come down to these caves to perform religious rites during Thaipusam.

4) Aquaria KLCC

The 5000sqft Aquaria KLCC is said to be largest aquarium in the world. Home to over 150 species of marine life, its star attractions include scary tiger sharks, lethal sea snakes, blue rays, bright coral fish, seahorses and more. Sure to be a sight!

5) KL Sentral and Brickfield – mini India

What happens when you find home away from home? Isn’t it the most blessed feeling ever? I guess; that’s what this place means to many Indians who live there in Malaysia. KL Sentral, also known as Mini India is a home.

Offcourse, an itineay doesn’t end with 4-6 places to visit. There are always add-ons to it, just like I have for you right now :)

What not to miss at KL other than my top 5 –

  • Sri Mahamariamman - This intricately detailed South Indian temple is Malaysia’s oldest functioning Hindu temple, dating back to 1873.
  • Orchid Park (Taman Orchid) - This Park has over 3,000 species that include 800 unique to Malaysia. The orchids are serious business for the Malays, as are all forms of gardening. (I love flowers!)
  • Spend a day at Sunway Lagoon Theme Park
  • Get lost in the natural gems of KL in FRIM Forest Reserve and do the Canopy walk!
I hope I could do a little justice to write about this majestic dream destination on earth. The day I visit Kuala Lumpur; my travel diary will read, “She knew that she had, like Alice, landed in Wonderland”.

Fall-Winter Living Room Décor Ideas

Winter calls for a cosy time. Be it your bedroom or your living room, the whole house should speak “winter ready”. Being in Mumbai, I kind of miss winters but the weather here gets pleasant in December and that’s what I look forward to most. Those winter nights when you just want to tuck in your couch in your living room, watching television with a glass of wine or hot chocolate in your hand, with a woolly blanket to cover you up. This by far is the best of times in my list to enjoy myself. I possibly can’t have a warm fire but when you move up in Indian map; you’ll find snowfall and possibly a fire place in that cosy room of yours. Ah, winters!

White and winters, my favorite :)
It is important to create a space for yourself to escape from the winter outside and inviting sumptuous color schemes and nooks in your living room.

I really love the wooden theme in my living room that I have right now. It gives this cosy feeling of away from outside, my own world. I know too much fairy-tale but that’s how I am! (He he).

Color Contrast and living –
You can go for the traditional white walls but when it comes to furniture I like experimenting. My mother really loves maroon or dark brown when it comes to furniture and curtains, no doubt most of the furniture in my living room is dark brown/brown; that woody affect I mentioned above (Not woody Allen, Jeez!). So dark brown furniture and thick curtains will make your living room feel snug; that’s warm and cosy. A little bit of textured wall art paintings or heavy rugs will add the perfect oomph to this!

Cosy corner -

I would die for such cosy corners <3

I don’t have one at my place but yearning for one! Of all the rooms and places in your big home sweet home, heart calls for a cosy little secluded corner which you call your own. It takes you to peace, quiet Sunday afternoons; add a statement comfortable wooden chair, accompanied with a small round table; and you’ll never want to leave. I have a swing at my place in the living room which is sort of my house's prized possession and that cosy place :)

Say Classy or Go for Dark -

If you are into cushions and soft throws; go for pale tones. Winter loves grey and beige. They add neutral feel to the décor; just by their presence. You can also mix it up with earthy tones to create a sophisticated look.

Give a warm treatment to your windows -

That's my house and as I said Maroon heavy curtains :)

One can also go for Blue this winter
As doors are meant to welcome good deeds, windows bring in the fresh air and are an ultimate companion to many. A quick way to add warmth to windows is to invest in heavy curtains with long drapes. Go for olive green, maroon or fire wood brown.
Cocoa, rust, gold and teal are the winter trends, giving the room a cozy feel without much effort.

More things to take care of -

Lay soft carpets and thick floor rugs, the key is to invest in the right colour. Add a hint of soft light in your living room to create a perfect ambiance in winter days.

Wood & Fabrics & Metals with soft low light
Go for aroma candles and Orchids or white spray roses which soften the winter blues. Place them on a coffee table in your cosy corner of living room.

Hope you have amazing an winter!

sit back with an amazing cup of hot chocolate (:

Fragrances at home, round the year :)

It’s wonderful how fragrances can elevate your mood or take you places sitting at one. When that Gajar ka halwa and its serene sweet carrot smell reach your nose, I am sure you literally pounce on it to grab the delicious bite.

Round the year, fragrances lift our mood; if January brings Makarsankranti and Marigold; February is all about Love and the roses. One such fragrance I can think of right now is the one I am currently using at my place; The Godrej Aer Petal Crush Pink; its soft, as soft as cuddle and keeps the mood of my home “totally in love” round the year. It is an enchanting spell indeed.

There comes March and the fragrance of “Gunjiya” and the Holi colours.  The homemade mawa enriches your soul and fulfils the foodie heart of yours. The March is the summer month, the flowers which bloom in the sunshine and the smell of late night ice cream knocks your bedroom with siblings fighting for the large scoop is sure to be the one in your memory.

April reminds me of school, the new class, the new books, the smell of the papers; it simply lifts up my mood. The memories of first day in school, the school friends soak in my heart the way water does to sugar. May and June for me especially; go in want of Monsoon. I simply love Monsoon and the fragrance of wet soil holds a special place in my life. I used to love playing in the mud when I was a kid, the raindrops lifts my life like how you hold your dress against the air when all it wants is to flirt a little more.

July is my favourite month. It’s my birthday month. The fragrance of attaining a new age, looking forward to a bright future, looking forward to birthday presents, the flower bouquet refreshing your soul an kick-starting your day on a good note is the one to look forward to. August is the siblings month. At first when I didn’t have a brother I would tie Rakhi to my Father, but when 12 years back a super cute bundle of joy came home, I couldn't ask God for anything more. My sister and my life were on cloud nine and not just our mood. The fragrance of sweets and the gift/money little brother gifts us, I love it!

September, October and November; the months of festivals in India in full swing. The fragrance of new clothes, sweets, relatives coming home, the whole idea of celebrations and change in the air enthralls me. It’s like my life has got a new motive. Our house is filled with the fragrance of the new bottle of Godrej Aer I have got. I simply love it. The .

Then comes December and the house is all set to welcome a new year. The fragrance of chocolates from  my Christian friends, the fragrance of woolen clothes, oh my favourite! The winters, when my mother opens that box of woolen clothes, the fragrance is outstanding. I can’t even explain the mood I am in, even thinking about it :)

These are some of the fragrances which lifts up my mood round the year at my home sweet home. Go get a Godrej Aer Room Freshener, I bet – it will take you places too :) They have got a whole range of it to try.

5 tips to put the best foot forward during Festivals

Festivals keep coming back now and then, but there are certain things which needs to be taken care of every single time the festive ring, rings. Its not just about mopping that floor or getting the best delicacies served but there's more to festival preparation to change the festive air. Let us find out;

1) Home mood through fragrance - Everybody wants their house clean and dirt free. Start with adding a fresh fragrance to it. Nobody wants to enter a place which stinks and makes you look for your hanky or use your hands on your nose. Let the guests come in and feel the freshness in the air. #ChangeTheAir this time and feel the difference!

2) Home Decor - As discussed in my last post, home decor needs to be taken care of while preparing for a festival. One needs to be conscious about not using too bright or too dark colors during festivals. Each festival asks for a change in the festive air, experimenting with different colors or what goes right with the festival ambiance is a priority.

3) Food - double check the menu and see to it that you include good portions of Veg, Non Veg and Deserts, so that no last minute crisis occurs. Guests will remember you for your hospitality & food that you served. The festivals come and go by, it's the memories which stay forever.

4) Check the society rules for Music and Noise levels. You don't want your festival party to be interrupted by neighbors or for that matter local police patrolling at night. If you are planning to burst crackers this Diwali, think of the poor animals and the small kids & seniors who are the most effected section of living being by noise pollution generated by crackers esp during Diwali. Enjoy, be safe and be eco-friendly.

5) Last but not the least, Festival Rituals. Festival celebration dates back to the very beginning of human race and following rituals is not just a plain act but of deep significance to the mankind. It keeps one rooted to their traditions and the younger generation known with their culture. It is important for all of us to adhere by the rituals to enjoy the festival at its best!

I hope the 5 tips helps you in someway. Have an amazing festival spree! :D

Happy Diwali to all :)
