[PR News] Koovs launches Menswear

One of my favorite brands which was now limited to women clothing has forayed into menswear. Yay!

KOOVS.COM has started stocking menswear February 2014 onward. The brand stocks their own private label KOOVS and a host of other brands curated from around the world. The Koovs private label collection is designed in London by a team of talented designers who work exclusively  for us in the KOOVS London fashion lab. The KOOVS Collection is inspired by trends on the international catwalks, street style and popular culture. The brand launches one new trend a month from their private label collection.

Apart from well know international brads already available in India, like Jack+ Jones, Diesel, Adidas, Timberland, Gas, Being Human, Vans, Quicksilver, Nike  etc;  KOOVS will be introducing cult British brands like Criminal Damage  Bellfield ,Jeepers Peeper, Dead Lovers and host of European brands like Mi-Pac, Selected Homme and Cheap Monday.  The edit of brands available on Koovs is unique to the brand, with many of the International brands exclusively retailing in India only on the KOOVS site.

The website will stock ready-to-wear, accessories (watches, fragrances, jewellery, innerwear, leather goods, hats, bags, sunglasses) and shoes.

The icing on the cake is the designer collaboration with global fashion superstar - Patrick Cox. Patrick has designed a capsule collection of footwear and accessories all encompassing his trademark style at a fraction of the price it would normally retail at. The collection launches in March and will be called AKA designed by Patrick Cox for Koovs.

Vino Fest at Phoenix Marketcity Kurla #LiveItUp

Last week I got an invite from Phoenix Marketcity Kurla. The subject said it all and I was pretty excited to read what the mail contained. It was a couple invite to the Vino Fest #LiveItUp, one of the largest wine festival in Mumbai from the 31st of January till 2nd of February.

Vino Fest 2014, was the first of its kind to take place in the Eastern Suburbs showcasing a mix of Indian and imported wines from all over the world along with a beautiful mix of cheese, food, shopping options, art and really great music to swing your body for the weekend.
I attended the fest for two days and had a great time savoring on some finest cheese and tasteful wine.
Nine Hills, Grover Zampa Vineyards, Charosa Wineries, Reveilo Wines, Turning Point, along with imported wines like Jacob’s Creek, Ixora Vineyards, Continental Wines had their stalls, offering a taste of some of their finest wines. There were some wonderful tasting red, white , rose and sparkling wines. The collection of cheese from Go Cheese and The Cheese Collective was amazing too. Along with cheese there were other food stalls from Pizza Hut (my saviour!), Mai Tai Lounge, Kebabs on the Grill, etc.

The event was not limited to wine tasting but there were workshops like Drum Circle workshop, Salsa workshop, Sangria making workshop, etc. to make your evenings extra special. Another highlight every evening was  the Grape Stomping session, which I sadly had to miss which allowed the guests to enjoy this fun activity of crushing grapes with their feet.

and if Wine, food and music was not enough there were shopping stalls put up by designers and art display by many other to bring the best of everything to this event making it a beautiful amalgamation of Wine-Art-Food-Music and Fashion!

Overall, I found the Vino Fest 2014 a perfect destination to spend my weekend. It was meant for wine and cheese lovers along with the people who love Music and Art too. What more one can ask for? If you missed it this time, I strongly recommend to go the next time it happens in the city! :)

Gift a book to Aham Bhumika and spread cheers!

Aham Bhumika an NGO, is a group of like minded people based in Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh, India). The diverse group consists of artists, housewives, engineers, tourist guides, teachers and government employees. The group is striving for the betterment of the underprivileged in rural areas of India.

Their mission is to help the underprivileged children, destitute and orphans by involving generous people from the cities by collecting material discarded by them (clothes, bicycles, books, toys, newspapers etc.) for the underprivileged people.

Currently, the group is planning to make library through the help of the people for rural children of a village namely Borda at the outskirts of Bhopal.

There are many people around us who have a lot of books at home, lying unused or often discarded by the children to be given to the local raddiwala. The organisation is trying to take up these books and make them available for the children of rural areas who are in need of them. One can send them books via courier and that does not really cost more. Many a times people refrain from monetary help but donating books s not just priceless but a great donation to the needy.
  • Aham Bhumika has children in the age group of 4 to 15 years.
  • One can send books in Hindi and English.
  • The books need to be on topics related to that of Children's interests. For example - story books, Art and craft books, various types of activities books, autobiographies, biographies, cartoon/coloring book, magazines and any other category of books or magazines that is of use for the children.

Once you send them the books, the name of people behind these donations will appear on their website and yes, let's not forget the blessings of young future of India. They also plan to put across pictures of the children once the library is installed so that you know the help reached the right place! From this campaign they intend to build a library which will benefit more than 120 underprivileged rural children.

Travelling in Mumbai Local

I have been travelling in Mumbai lifeline for the past 5 years. Its a hell of an experience. Its no less than a challenge to get into a fast 'crowded' local at dadar or kurla during peak hours. But, once you start travelling in Mumbai Locals you cannot stop loving them and living without them...

People say that one should walk with confidence and not look down, but when you are at stations like Dadar, Kurla, Andheri, Borivali, please look EVERYWHERE. There might be people coming from all sides.

Well, I am not much experienced with the General (Mens'/Family/Couples) compartment but of Women. If you just observe the nature of Mumbai Local for a day you'll understand a lot about the crowd.

Things I have learnt about Ladies Compartment

1) Book your seats before they are gone.

As soon as your body enters the compartment, start asking/booking place for you because if you don't ask you cannot sit. (This doesn't count for already empty seats.)

2) Get used to the slang.
Oh yes, I haven't seen this happening much even in the luggage compartment which is poorly populated all the time. The slang language used in the ladies dabba, is beyond imagination. You'll find an old aunty fighting with a college student often, mostly on the 'fact' that the younger generation is fool. Stay AWAY from such fights. They are a part and parcel of everyday. If not between them then anyother and this time for the 'seat booking'. So review point - 1; BOOK seats.

3) Take care of your neighbor.
Carry a small newspaper when you're travelling; buy a tabloid and save yourself from some early morning tension. The lady sitting next to you might not like the paper going all over her. Better, read in your smartphone. You definitely don't want to be in a fight for the next 1 hour before both of you reach the destination.

If you are sleepy & cannot handle your head wobbling around, go for head-down and not on your neighbor. It is irritating.

4) Love it or Hate it but you cannot ignore it.
There are train buddies. The one's who like to sit only with their buddies and have this last long seat occupied for themselves. and they sing. Yes. Mostly the black anf white era songs. As a matter of fact, I love that. There are people who don't plug in their own music and go for a nap. Easy.

5) Let it go.
If you are standing and have even an inch of 'empty' space ahead or side of you, please give it to the needy behind who is constantly elbowing or pushing you when Kurla or Dadar is approaching. Let them have all the happiness. Give it away and stay away from stress.

6) You cannot be Usain Bolt but learn to be a tortoise.
The bridges at stations mentioned before in this post are so crowded that even your ssshh ssh (oh yes, people do that) or Baju hata, Chala, all this won't help... but being a tortoise? definitely will!

But if you haven't experienced this, you haven't experienced the true Mumbai at all :)

My next post will talk about the best way to learn the 4 lines of Mumbai Locals.
Till then, keep travelling and sharing Mumbai Local stories with me :D
