Have you ever met someone who did something out of nowhere and inspired you to do something better in life?
Have you ever spoken to someone who was no less than a leader to you? Who could lead the best out of you and leave the shortcomings?
The goal can vary, but the definition to lead, never.
Leaders?
- Those who rule
- Those who run an organisation
- Those who lead a team
- Those who don’t fear about what’s next and have a definite aim in life
- Those who hold positions
Isn’t that a woman who runs a home is no less than a leader?
She has more responsibilities on her shoulders than anyone else. Don’t you agree?
As I look upto the women who have inspired me to do something and be better in life, it is the women in my family that I look upto first.
Mother, tops the list. Doubts? None. She has always drawn me to her innate sense of leadership over the years. Inspite of the problems, tedious chores, taking care of 3 kids, she has always managed to keep her hold and come out brighter than the sunshine every single day.
The next in line is my sister. I have always fought with her, but then, she has always been an inspiration to me, in one way or the other. Be it about being disciplined, or the love for traveling. I think I have inherited this quality from her, following a travel plan every day, saving up a bit every day to fulfill it. Isn’t that a characteristic of a leader? To spread his/her aura?
Another woman whom I admire the most was my school teacher, back in secondary section. A young, independent woman. She believed in what we say, “You only live once. If you do that right, once is enough.” Encouraging the young girls to believe in their dreams from an early age. Inculcating extra-curricular activities and grow, apart from studies. She never got married, we never knew the reason why. She went on to changing a lot more lives. Including mine.

How does a workplace ensure that there is no gender bias and women are getting equal opportunity to showcase their hard work and talent?
Empowerment of women in the workforce would mean:
- Allowing women to have more control over their lives
- Giving them the freedom to make their own schedules.
- Learn new skills and gain self-reliance.
Empowerment is created when the strengths that women already bring to the company are recognized and utilized.
How does one ensure that they are engaged at the maximum level?
- Hire more women
- Ensure safety - This is of utmost importance in today's life. Transport and escort arrangements are the need of the time.
- Majority of women leave their domestic life behind to work. Workplaces can provide facilities and perks that help them overcome domestic barricades.
etc.
- Investment in safe working conditions and health policies is also not just good for the business but to create gender harmony at offices.
- Adopting and emphasizing a zero-tolerance violence and sexual harassment policy at work would also be beneficial.
- Businesses investing in health insurance policies that include counseling.
What sets all the women leaders apart, is their ability to never force anything on others but be an inspiration. Give opinion when asked but leave the ultimate decision with the people, weighing the pros and cons of every situation and opportunity.
Education and training, community leadership, mentor programs, are some other examples to nourish women empowerment and setting benchmarks across workplaces.
